Hmm , a quick google reveals a whole host of issues with 2000 on vista.This page stops short of saying incompatible, but its not a supported option.

There shouldn't be any reason that you would need to run sql server 2000 on the machine. If you install 2008 then compatibility level 80 (I.e. sql server 2000) is still supported. So I would go with a...
